Paramahansa Yogananda visited Kansas City and conducted a lecture series in January 1932. It was on this trip that he met James J. Lynn who became one of his most advanced disciples.
In 1951 Yogananda bestowed on him the monastic title of Rajarsi Janakananda (after the spiritually illustrious King Janaka of ancient India) and turned over to him the responsibility of guiding the SRF-YSS work. He contributed greatly to the organization of Self-Realization Fellowship and was instrumental in putting it on a strong financial footing. He became SRF’s second President when Paramahansa Yogananda passed in 1952.
